“Why do people get married nowadays?”
Nicholas paused for a moment. He didn’t want to eavesdrop, but he found the question intriguing.
“There are so many divorces. Is it even worth getting married?” said a big boy.
Then the door opened from the inside and Nicholas moved on. But the question stayed with him.
That evening, he spoke to his father.
“Dad, why should people get married?”
His father replied calmly, “God wants it that way. The Bible says, ‘A man shall leave his father and mother and be united with his wife.’”
“But why exactly?” asked Nicholas.
“Because God didn’t want people to be alone. The Bible says that people should have fellowship. And to start a family, you need a man and a woman.”
Nicholas thought about it. “I understand that. But what if you marry the wrong woman?”
“Do you believe that God loves you?” asked his father.
“Yes, of course!” said Nicholas.
“And that He cares for you?”
“Yes.”
“Do you think He wants you to be unhappy?”
“No, definitely not.”
“Then you can trust that when you’re old enough, God will give you a wife who’s right for you! Of course, it won’t all be easy. People are different and everyone is unique. But God has a plan for everyone—even before we’re born.”
Nicholas was still not satisfied: “But why do so many married couples get divorced? Could it be that He gives some men the wrong woman? Or why do so many married couples separate?”
Father lovingly stroked his son’s head: “Not everyone listens to what God tells them. Some think they know better. Or they don’t even ask for God’s will. The Bible clearly states that God first created Adam and then the right woman, Eve. He knew exactly what was good for Adam!”
Nicholas nodded: “Thank you, Dad, for explaining everything to me! I want to trust God and listen to Him. When I grow up, I want to marry the woman God has chosen for me. I want to guard my heart so that I can give her everything—for my entire life!”
